Initiatives

Chen Law Journal strives to bring awareness of the lack of legal education and opportunities in secondary education and in low-income communities in New York. Titled Legal Studies Institute, Chen Law Journal’s pilot program to educate New York students about their rights within the context of education law. Within the project, the Legal Studies Institute will give students the knowledge to learn about certain laws that impact students the most. These laws include civil rights in schools, discrimination laws, and due process rights. The project will publish different mediums of work from flyers to educational videos will help cultivate a curriculum for secondary students as a targeted audience.

Legal Studies Institute will give students and youth opportunities to experience researching, writing, and publishing their work. For many students interested in law, this project will be the first stepping stone to learning more about the legal field. And in doing so, students will be able to advance their experiences in other activities, internships, jobs, and academic settings.
